EARLY CHILDHOOD AND ELEMENTARY GUIDELINES FOR ENHANCEMENT ACTIVITIES FOR PRACTICE AT HOME

Early Childhood and Elementary teachers at Discovery School will recommend enhancement activities to be done at home. These activities support our curriculum, extend learning beyond the school day and assist individual students in their learning journey. Sometimes, these activities will be work that was not completed during school time. Other times, it will involve online activities in preparation for class work. Activities may be assigned on an individual basis as an extension to the differentiation done in class. In all the above cases, teachers will communicate parents these expectations through their weekly blogs or via individual emails.

The use of online support applications such as IXL, Razkids, Readworks, etc will be balanced between school and home.

Reading every night continues to be an expectation for Discovery School students. Early Childhood students should be reading a minimum of 10 minutes each day, while the time for Elementary Students can vary between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the grade level.

Parents are encouraged to talk to their child's teacher if there are any concerns about the activities to be done at home. Discovery teachers are very accommodating and understanding in individual circumstances.
