February 25-March 1

Welcome back to another week of discovery and exploration in 5th Grade!

Notes for the week...

** Midterm progress reports were sent home two weeks ago.  Please sign and return these reports as soon as possible!

** Thank you all so much for showing your support of the Family Fun Run on Saturday and the "Dog's Way Home" movie fundraiser on Sunday!! It was a very busy but fun weekend, all to help our school become an even better place!

** We had a great time learning about the importance of pollinators such as bees and bats last week at Beecheii!

**For the next few weeks, we will be using personal electronic devices regularly in class for Language Arts, Reading, and Math.  Please allow your child to bring his/her tablet or laptop to school. We will be using the applications Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Slides, so please ensure that these apps have been installed on your child's device.  We use these apps throughout the year for many different projects!

This week in class...

Language Arts

In Language Arts this week, we will have our final discussion and reflection over  our guided reading novel Holes, by Louis Sachar.  Students' final Google Slide Decks will be due on Tuesday.  We will also be practicing our note-taking and paraphrasing skills before moving on to research Ancient Greeks and Romans in preparation for Social Studies class.

We will be finishing up our Science Fair research papers and preparing our bibliographies using the Chrome Extension MyBib.

Last week we took our unit test on fractions, however, we will be learning how these skills and concepts relate to other subjects in math. This week we will be transitioning into a brief unit on converting fractions to decimals and also learning about ratios.
