Notes for the week...

** This Friday, April 12, we will be celebrating Semana Santa with a special potluck lunch at 12:00 and water activities in the afternoon, as explained in an email that went home last week.  If you have not been able to sign up for something to contribute, please click HERE to access the document to sign up! Students will also need to be sure to bring clothes that can get wet, and students may bring toys such as squirt guns and water balloons.  We are asking that students bring their own reusable plates, cups, and utensils rather than using disposable plasticware, so that we can put into practice all we have been learning about protecting the earth and its resources this year!

** Third quarter report cards were sent home over two weeks ago.  Please sign and return the envelope to school as soon as possible.  Thanks!

**Just a reminder that next week, from April 15th to 19th, and also Monday, April 22nd there are no classes.

This week in class...

Language Arts
In Reading, we will continue with our Book Club routines.  We will have our last Book Club meeting on Tuesday, and students will receive instructions for their final Book Club project on Wednesday.

In Language Arts and Writing we will be studying the Greek and Latin roots sept, non, cent, kilo, milli. We will also be continuing our analysis and interpretation of poetry.

Math

This week we will be reviewing and delving deeper into the concepts of geometry. We will be discussing acute, obtuse, and right angle and how this helps us identify types of triangles. We will also talk about the radius, diameter, and center of circles. If time permits this week we will have a short quiz on these topics and talk about how to solve for the area of triangles and circles.

Homework:
Monday: One Xtramath.org lesson, watch the Kahn Academy and MathAntics videos above
Tuesday: One Xtramath.org lesson, IXL BB.1 and BB.2
Wednesday: One Xtramath.org lesson, IXL BB.3 and BB.4
Thursday: One Xtramath.org lesson, take the Google Forms Greece & Rome Unit Test
Friday: Relax!

Science
This week we'll begin our science unit by investigating the earth and the sun and
their relationship to each other.  We'll be investigating the earth's rotation and the sun's position in the sky by making our own sundials.

Have a great week, and thank you for your support!
Ms. Amy and Mr. Andrew
